Belgium boast a long and proud history of
participation in international volleyball, having been present at the first
ever FIVB World Championship in 1949, when they ranked ninth.
Belgium’s international volleyball history dates
back to the 1948 European Championship when the team finished fifth. At the
2017 European Championship Belgium finished fourth.
They made their FIVB World League debut in 2014 and
were promoted to Group 1 in 2016. In 2017, they finished seventh in Group 1 of
FIVB World league, their highest ranking in the competition’s history. The 'Red Dragons' competed consistently in the
World Championship until 1978, before a 36-year hiatus, marking their return to
the competition in 2014.Belgium currently sit 15th in the FIVB World
Ranking and in 2013 won the European League title for the first time in
impressive fashion, sweeping the Czech Republic in the semi-final before doing
