Ten million fans tune in to watch FIVB Men's World Championship launch on Polsat

Warsaw, Poland, September 1, 2014 - Ten million television viewers tuned in to watch the Opening Ceremony and Match of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 on Polsat, Polsat Sport and Polsat's volleyball channels.

The average audience in any minute of the opening match of Poland v. Serbia reached a record 5 million viewers. Cheered on by a fantastic audience of 62,000 fans inside the National Stadium, the Polish players defeated Serbia 3-0.

The Poland v. Serbia match gave the Polsat Group channels a leading position. The final of the first match of the World Championship tournament lured 6 million viewers to their TV sets. Polsat Sport alone did extremely well, with over 1.2 million viewers, which translates to nearly a 9% share of the sample of television viewers. In the sample's commercial group, the channel scored a share of as much as 11.3%. The match was also broadcast on Polsat Volleyball 1 - one of the four dedicated channels launched specially for the Polish tournament, which had a very good result of 300 thousand viewers.

“It was a show unlike anything the world had seen before," was how the foreign press described the opening match. The Polish players’ performance against Serbia was also a pleasure to watch. The pillars of the Polish national team - Paweł Zagumny, Michał Winiarski and Mateusz Mika - showed their true character, fighting for each and every ball. After three hard-fought sets, Stephane Antiga’s men proved to be superior.

Poland will play against Australia at 20:15 on Tuesday in Wrocław. Two days later. they take on Venezuela (at 20.15). On Saturday, September 6 they will take on Cameroon (at 20.15), before playing Argentina on Sunday (at 16.30 - all times local).

All matches of the national team of Poland will be available live only on Polsat Volleyball 1 (HD/SD). The matches of other teams will be transmitted live on special dedicated channels: Polsat Volleyball 1, Polsat Volleyball 2, Polsat Volleyball 3 and Polsat Volleyball 4.

The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 is the biggest international sporting event held in Poland. The tournament, which is hosted by Poland for the first time in history, has gathered the best 24 volleyball teams from around the world, to battle for the prestigious title of World Champions. The winner will be decided over the course of 103 matches, played in Poland’s host cities: Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Kraków, Łódź, Bydgoszcz and Katowice.
