Jon Uriarte, Australia’s coach: “Many years ago I learned that the opening matches are very special. My players did the good job and they were quite optimistic. Not everything went perfectly but we managed to win the match. The result doesn’t show everything because the meeting wasn’t easy at all.”

Aidan Zingel, Australia’s captain: “We are happy from the result. It was a great start for us. It wasn’t an easy match because we had some really bad mistakes. We know that in front of us there are some really difficult matches so we need to stay focused. I saw the match between Poland and Serbia. It was a great performance with a spectacular atmosphere. People say a lot about our last match with Poland at the Olympics but that’s in the past. We need to think about Tuesday. We believe that we can win against Poland.”

Peter Nonnenbroich, Cameroon’ coach: “Congratulations to Australia. It was a very important match for both of teams. I didn’t expect that my team will play such bad volleyball. We almost didn’t play. In my worst nightmares I didn’t think that it will look like that.”

Jean Patrice Mboulet Ndaki, Cameroon’s captain: “What I can say about the game is that Cameroon didn’t play at all. We didn’t show what we can. Hopefully we will perform better in the next meetings.”
