“Important win for new generation” – Venezuelan Piñerua

 

Venezuelans celebrate their first victory at the World Championships since 2006

Wroclaw, Poland, September 2, 2014 – Captain Kervin Piñerúa, who led his team with 26 points, pondered on the meaning of the victory over Cameroon for the young generation of players back home in Venezuela.

Venezuela coach, Vincenzo Nacci: “It was a really hard meeting for everyone. Victory in this match gives us a hope and belief for a success in the next round on this championship. As everybody knows, we have a really difficult pool but our hopes are big because we have a talented team. I am very happy for this first victory but especially I appreciate the enthusiasm of my team. I hope it will help us in the next matches.”

Venezuela captain, Kervin Pinerua: “We are very happy for this victory. It was very important mostly for the new generation of volleyball in Venezuela. That victory helped us a lot and we hope we will manage to win another matches. We forgot about our first match and this is a real beginning for us. We want to play the best in the next matches. We will try our best to win. We know that Poland is a really strong team. We will try to do what we can to gain the good result.”

Cameroon coach, Peter Nonnenbroich: “Congratulations to Venezuela. They were definitely the better team today. We surely played better than in the last match. We were working hard but we are missing official games. We practice a lot but we cannot gain the experience which is vital on events like this one. We have a young team and I am sure that they will play better and better.”

Cameroon captain, Jean Patrice Ndaki Mboulet: “I am trying to find some words which could describe this match but it is hard to say anything about it. We started this meeting really bad. I do not know what happened. Venezuela was playing very good today – they were really focused and patient. It was an attractive match for fans. We really appreciate the support of Polish public. It was really exciting to come to here because we know that Poland loves volleyball.”
