“We want to make history” – Bruno Rezende

Brazilian Captain Bruno Rezende leads the celebration after the five-set victory over France

Katowice, Poland, September 20, 2014 – Brazilian captain Bruno Rezende said his team is on a mission to put Brazil’s name in the history of volleyball with a fourth consecutive title, something never achieved before in FIVB Men's World Championship.

Brazil Captain Bruno Rezende: “All tournaments are special for us and all the finals are also special. Tomorrow we want to make history making everything possible to put the name of Brazil in the history of volleyball. It is our chance to do something that never has been done before.”

Brazil Player Felipe Fonteles: “We sure expected a tough match against France since they have been playing quality volleyball for the whole tournament. Their reception was so good that made difficult for us to stop their spikes. It was well played match from their side. We won the tie-breaker and now need to be ready for tomorrow to do what we had in our minds when we came here.”

France Captain Benjamin Toniutti: “It was not a good start for us today, maybe we felt a little bit of pressure in the first set. Then we were able to play a high level game and we tried everything to win but it was not enough. We are disappointed about losing but we need to come back tomorrow and try to win a medal. Of course it is going to be an unforgettable game for us, but we need to put let it in the past for the moment and focus on our next match.”

Brazil Coach Bernardo Rezende: “First, I think the French team gave us a great example of good volleyball with a great organization. They kept the ball flying, not only today. We knew the match was going to be very difficult and it was for sure. I have been in their position before but they must continue working hard. Second, I want to apologize for not attending to the previous press conferences. But I didn’t want to answer questions about what happened after the match against Russia when I wasn’t there. Then I didn’t attend after the Poland match because I thought it was a Polish moment and I didn’t want to have to answer questions about things outside of the match, like rules and changes. I really apologize for that.”

France Coach Laurent Tillier: “We were so close to win but the little details are very important when you are playing at the high level. We tried to find the way and we almost succeeded but it was not enough. We have to swallow the loss and continue improving from this one. Now we have to try to win the bronze medal and keep our hard working since we want to continue also our road to Rio Olympics.”
