Anderson: Puerto Rico could not surprise us

Matt Anderson commented on a victory for the United States against Puerto Rico

Kraków, Poland, September 4, 2014 - Today’s game between USA and Puerto Rico finished relatively quickly, as the US team won in three straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-20). Matt Anderson, who is the third best scorer of the tournament, shared his thoughts on the match.

Your team won three points today. Are you happy with your team’s performance?
Matt Anderson: "Yes, I’m happy with the win. I’m slightly concerned though with what we came out with in the third set, compared to the score in the second set. There were definitely a couple of game elements there that we need to think about."

You know Puerto Rico team quite well from regional tournaments. Did they surprise you with anything specific this time?
Matt Anderson: "No, we play them quite often, so we knew what to expect."

There are still two games to go in Pool D. What do you expect from the French team, your next opponent?
Matt Anderson: "I think the French team will be pretty similar to the Iranian team. They serve well, and are persistent in the game. We have to be ready for that."

During the game with the Iranian team, you had significant problems with receiving. Do you think that can happen this time as well?
Matt Anderson: "The Iranian team put a lot of pressure on us with their efficient service. There were certain points in the game at which we couldn’t relax, or lost focus.  We’ll try to avoid that this time."
