Pavlov: Bulgaria surprised us with their game’s organization

Gdańsk, Poland, September 8, 2014 -Two hours and
ten minutes – that is the time that was needed to select the winner of the clash
between Russia and Bulgaria, which was the last one in Pool C. Sborna won this
competition 3-2 (20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11), even if after the first two sets it was almost certain that three points would go to Bulgaria.

 "We tried
to take this match under control from the very first minutes, but we were
completely surprised by the Bulgarian game’s organization. In the third set we
managed to take the initiative and we finally won this clash and the whole
group," said Nikolay Pavlov, who scored 12 points for Russia.

"We really
wanted to win this game, but the injury of the middle-blocker forced us to make
a change and it had an influence for our later rotation. All in all, I am glad
that we have showed our team spirit, which was not present in previous matches," stressed Tsvetan Sokolov, the best scorer in Bulgaria national team, explaining
the reason of his team’s failure.

Russia made it to the next round as the
leader of Pool C. next position took in order: Canada,
Bulgaria and China. Mexico and Egypt did not get a promotion to
the next round.
