Vargas: China did their homework

Mexico's Daniel Vargas commented on his team's defeat against China

Gdańsk, Poland, September 3, 2014 - China defeated Mexico 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20). Despite winning the first set, the Mexicans were not able to gain a point for their group ranking. They now focus attention on Friday's match with Russia.

"It is hard not to feel the pressure after two lost games," admitted Daniel Vargas, who scored 15 points for Mexico. "We need to do our best and try not to lose the advantages we earn. Concentration and self-confidence will be essential during the match with Russia."

How would you compare these two rivals?
"We were prepared in a completely different way for the game with Bulgaria. We knew that they are a strong team - not only from their position in the FIVB ranking, but mainly from the long volleyball tradition in their country. We had a specific strategy for today, which was refined after what we saw during the match between China and Egypt. Using this analysis, we were able to win the first set. Unfortunately, our opponents also did their homework and entirely changed their play," added Vargas.
