Nikolay Apalikov was born in Orsk, Orenburg region,
but started his professional career in “Lokomotiv-Izumrud”, the team based in
Ekaterinburg. During the seven seasons that Nikolay spent in this team he
managed to become the silver medalist of the Russian Superleague (2001) and win
the Russian national cup (2000). On the European arena Apalikov gained the
silver medal of the CEV Top Teams Cup (2001) and the bronze medal of the CEV
Cup (2004). By his performance for “Lokomotiv-Izumrud” Nikolay convinced the
former Russian national team head coach Zoran Gajich to enclose him to the team
in 2005. Apalikov debuted in the European League clash against Estonian team.
Altogether Nikolay took part in 8 national team games in the season 2005 and
won the bronze of the 2005 CEV European Championship. Still the 2005 season
remains the only season when Apalikov played for the Russian main team.

The very new period in Nikolay’s career started in
2007 when he moved to “Zenit” (Kazan). With this team he won all the possible
titles within Russia and also became a winner of the 2008 CEV Champions League.
That season “Zenit” stopped just one step away to repeat this great achievement
and the head coach of the Russian team Vladimir Alekno who is also the head
coach of “Zenit” asked Apalikov to join the national team once again.

In 2011, as a part of the national team,  Apalikov
won the World League and the World Cup.
