Overview

Team profile

The Cuban men's team may have been overshadowed by their female counterparts, but the men have had a fair share of glory with four World Championship medals in their 14 appearances to date in the competition. The Caribbean team have picked up bronze in 1978 and 1998, as well as silver in 1990 and 2010.

Cuba's men were also the first to earn their country an Olympic medal in volleyball - a bronze at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games when they beat Japan 3-0 for third place.

They won the 1989 FIVB World Cup and 2001 FIVB Grand Champions Cup and a single FIVB World League title in 1998.

At continental level Cuba have also won the NORCECA Championship 15 times, in addition to five gold medals at the Pan-American Games.

This year, at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia, Cuba finished fourth after losing in five sets to Mexico in the bronze medal match.
