Brazil celebrates being unbeaten after four matches
Katowice, Poland, September 6, 2014- After grueling five-sets battle Brazil hardly overcame Korea 3-2 (21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 17-25, 15-13) in Pool B of the 2014 FIVB Men's World Championship at Spodek hall, Katowice on Saturday’s to stay unbeaten in 4 matches.
After the victory, Brazil improved their won-loss ratio to 4-0. Korea with gaining one point, stays fifth in pool B with 1-3 ration (4 pts).
Key points:
• Korea led 17-11 in spike after the first set.
• Brazil went ahead after the second set, having 24 points scores with spikes, against 22 gained by Korea.
• Kwang-In Jeon scoring 24 points led Korea scorers in today's match.
• Leandro Vissoto was Brazil's top scorer with 22 points.
• Both teams scored 56 points from spikes, but Brazil led 13-6 in blocks.
Played point by point beginning of the first set was a battle of spike’s power from both sides. Additionally, triple block by Felipe Fonteles, Eder and Leandro Visotto followed by Korea’s ace made the game very tough. Chul-Woo Park with his right-wing spike put Korea 8-6 head at the first technical timeout. Brazilia’s kill followed by an ace displayed by Eder let Canarinhos caught up at 10-10. Yung-Suk Shin’s kill and well playing in defence helped Korea with gaining three points of leading at the second technical timeout (16-13). With Chul-Woo Park’s kill and Brazil’s out spike, Korea’s leading increased to four points (19-14). Then Brazil started a chase to catch up, but Kwang-In Jeon’s kill from the middle and Min-Ho Choi point serve pushed Korea to win 25-21.
Brazil started the second set with a strong hit and leading 8-3 at the first technical timeout, returned into the game. After Vissottos kill, they jumped 9-3 ahead, what broke Korea’s concentration and caused their technical mistakes. Comfortably leading 14-6 Brazil didn’t let Korea to play efficiently. Double block by Seung-Suk Kwak and Yung-Suk Shin and single spikes didn’t change the scores. Left-wing Murilo’s kill followed by Vissotto’s spike finished the set 25-13.
Continuing their series, Brazil led 4-1 at the beginning of the third set. However, Korea tried to catch up, coming at 7-6 after two Kwang-In Jeon’s spikes. Adding Seung-Suk Kwak kill, Koreans led 8-7 at the first technical timeout. After Vissotto’s scoring a point, Brazil changed the situation for a while, but Korea didn’t slow down- playing well in defence and forming fine attack, they kept touch and went 13-11 ahead. Staying focused, Brazil broke Korea’s leading point after point and jumped 16-15 ahead. Keeping the advanced and making use of Korea’s error, Brazil won 25-21.
Opening the fourth set 2-0, Korea kept fighting and increased their leading to four points (7-3). After Min-Ho Choi’s spike, Korea managed to keep 8-4 ahead during the first technical timeout. With aggressive serves and well formed defence, Korea stayed four points ahead (11-7). Ace by Chul-Woo Park extended Korea’s leading to 15-9. Outstanding Korea’s force in attack and very well played defence led them throughout this set into tie-break, as well as unstoppable Kwang-In Jeon. The fourth set ended 25-17 after Korea’s kill.
Tie-break was opened with 2-2 balance. Triple Brazil’s block by Mauricio, Eder and Wallace let Brazilians gained one point of leading, but shortly after that Korea answered with a hard spike. At 6-6, Fonteles made a serve mistake and Korea with a left-wing kill went 8-6 ahead. At 12-10 Brazil’s leading, Korea regained force once again, caught up at 12-12. However, Brazil changed the scores and won 15-13.
