Tervaportti: We wanted to leave a good impression

Finnish setter Eemi Tervaportii spoke about his team's straight sets victory against Bulgaria

Wrocław, Poland, September 14, 2014 - Finnish setter Eemi Tervaportii spoke about his team's straight sets victory against Bulgaria in Round 2 Pool F.

We can say the Bulgarian team was an addition to your show, especially in the first and the last sets. Were you piqued by yesterday’s loss against China?
Yes, of course. Normally, we should have won, even in straight sets. Everyone in our team was silent after that game and bitter about the loss. We wanted to leave a good impression in Poland. The result against Bulgaria is fine, I am satisfied. It was quite easy to beat the Bulgarians. Maybe they had already given up before playing. We were concentrated and we knew what we had to do to win the match.

Mikko Esko said yesterday that service was Finland's weakest element against China. What about service in this game?
Our service was much better in comparison with the match with China. We also improved other elements of our play and did not make many mistakes.

What is the difference between the goal you made before coming to Poland and the situation now?
We are pleased with our results. At least we are 11th in this World Championship, after so many years of being out of this kind of tournament. However, it can change if China wins against Cuba. I think we had two bad games and we could have played better.

Which moment of this Championship is the most haunting for you?
All the games in Katowice, because we had 5000 supporting fans. It was amazing that we had such an atmosphere there. I also will remember the last game, which was won slickly.

I have read your description on the FIVB official website. One thing got my attention among your hobbies. Hunting – is it hunting for medals?
(Laughter) No, it is normal hunting for animals – deers and different kinds of birds.
