"We played with intensity and focus", says Aleksiev

Bulgarian captain expressed his satisfaction with the result of their match against Mexico in Pool C

Gdansk, Poland, September 1, 2014 – Bulgaria steadily skimmed in straight sets against an unfocused Mexican squad in the second match in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship at the Ergo Arena on Monday.

Mexico captain Carlos Guerra: “For us it was a tough match although we managed to maintain an even score in some moments in the match until both technical timeouts come, where Bulgaria dictated the pace of the game until the end of each set. We have many mistakes to correct and many things to focus on before the next match.”

Mexico coach Sergio Hernandez: “I would like to emphasise that our biggest fault in this match was our lack of concentration and patience. These two things definitely were definitely lacking and disabled us to perform at the top of our game. In the third set, my players finally showed their true level but unfortunately we have committed many mistakes. Again, lack of focus made us lose this set. We are truly determined to find a better way of playing the succeeding matches. Tomorrow is our day off but we will definitely not be resting. We have to figure out a way to win against China, since that match is vital for both teams. We are confident that we will be able to show a better performance on Wednesday.”

Bulgaria captain Todor Aleksiev: “I want to tell my Mexican fellows to keep their heads up. You are going to be better in next matches, I am sure of that. We are really satisfied about the result of this match. We managed to perform what we have been preparing for – intense play and utmost concentration. These are essential components our coach wanted us to show on the court. We also have to clear our heads to play better.”
