Atanasijević: Everything is in our own hands now

Wroclaw, Poland, September 6, 2014 - Serbia wins
hands down with Venezuela. Satisfied with the victory spiker Aleksandar
Atanasijević shared with us his feelings about the game.

How do you feel about your game?

We are much
better than Venezuela individually. We just needed to play our game. That was
enough. This game was important for us because we are sharing the second place
in our pool now. We have six points so we can be happy. Only that first match
against Poland was not so good but then we were playing better and better. We
can start thinking about next group and our next opponents – really strong
opponents.

Until the middle of each set, Venezuela competed on a
level playing field. How would you comment on their game?

Venezuela is a
new team. They are not in the volleyball top 10. It was normal for us that we
had to win this match. The score was 3-0 but I can say that Venezuela played
well. If they win against Australia, they will play in the next round so I wish
them luck.

Are you satisfied with your game and results on this
tournament?

We have to be
happy because we started really bad. Nobody could expect that after that big loss we would come back so fast. Everything is in our own hands now. Before the
championship started we had set our goal which was to be among the top six. I hope
we can make it. It would be really hard because we are not in our best shape
now. We can play much better and I hope we show our best performances next
matches.

You show great volleyball during this championship.
The loss with Poland was only

“an accident at work”?

No. Poland is
one of the best team in the world now. They played in the front of 62,000
supporting people so that was their huge advantage. That is why they won so
easily. I hope we have one more chance to play against Poland to show that our
first match was not a real match. We were totally lost. Maybe the atmosphere
was the problem.

Do you watch other matches? There is a lot happening
in Pool D.

I watch almost
all other matches. Pool D have the strongest teams in the championship. There are
5 totally equal teams. The next round would be really difficult for us –
amazing opponents are waiting for us. We cannot do anything about that, we just have
to play our best and try to win each game.
